Daniel asks…
Does anyone know what Google Scholar is?
What benefits does it have? Can you utilise it for SEO purposes? Any information you can give me would be really appreciated.
Regards
selkirk answers:
Google Scholar is a search engine specifically meant for searching literature based docs. If you are dealing with online books or something related to literature, it can be useful from the SEO perspective.

selkirk answers:
You have to source the actual document/paper that you used from Google Scholar rather than citing Google Scholar itself.

Donna asks…
Google Scholar? Can I Use This For My Essays/Papers?
I’m in college, majoring in Anthropology.
I’m guessing Google Scholar can help me find great papers to cite in papers that I personally must complete for my college courses.
I’m then assuming most results with Scholar will include reputable papers, correct?
Is there anything else about Goggle Scholar I might find handy and useful?
selkirk answers:
Google scholar is like a subscription service, but for free! You may have used something similar like Lexis Nexus or ProQuest that offers a database of reputable papers, but google provides the same service for no cost. There are critics that say the way journals are presented after the search hinders the usefulness of GS, but you can find out for yourself.
So in short, subscription services are better, so check to see if your school library offers them online. Mine does through the school’s portal. If not, Google Scholar away!

Charles asks…
Help using google scholar?
I’m doing research for my final year computing project and was told that google scholar is really good for that sort of stuff. However, when I search for a topic, the articles that are returned are only previews. I have to pay before downloading or reading the full thing. Its my first time using google scholar. Is this the way it works or am I doing something wrong?
can somebody who has used this before enlighten me?
Thanks in advance

George asks…
How do I import a Bibtex citation from Google Scholar into my .bib file?
selkirk answers:
I’m assuming you already have a .bib file created.
First, make sure Google Scholar knows you want a BibTeX reference. Go to “Scholar preferences” and select BibTeX as your Bibliography Manager.
Now each search result in Google Scholar will have a link entitled “Import into BibTeX.” Click on that and your will get a text page that is the BibTeX entry for that reference. Simply cut and paste it into your .bib file using your favorite text editor. The .bib file is just a text file with all the BibTeX entries in it, one after the other.
